Hi Marc,
Without diving into many technical details, there are some high-level differences when comparing Immidio Flex Profiles 7.5 with VMware View 5 Persona Management.
VMware Persona Management is mostly focused on improving performance issues which customers might encounter in VDI environments.
Immidio Flex Profiles can definitely also address those performance issues, by using DirectFlex functionality to load application settings when an application is launched, instead of when a user logs on. But Immidio Flex Profiles goes beyond improving performance issues, providing many more user environment management capabilities. Depending on your requirements you could even use VMware Persona Management in conjunction with Immidio Flex Profiles.
In both cases Immidio Flex Profiles 7.5 provides the following user environment management capabilities:
- Manage a user’s settings in a segmented manner, instead of one big container.
- Provide support per application/setting (restore from backup or reset to defaults).
- Allow users to support their own user settings using the Flex Profiles Self-Support tool.
- Roam user settings across different operating systems (not limited to VDI environments). For example: roam between physical and virtual machines, or roam between virtual machines and Terminal Services.
- Migrate user settings (if desired only specific applications/settings) from physical Windows XP to Windows 7 running in a VDI environment.
- Manage user settings on any Windows operating system.
- Pre-configure application settings using the “Predefined Settings” feature, initial and/or mandatory.
- Cleanup certain profile data using the “Profile Cleanup” feature, shrinking existing roaming and local profiles.
- Provide administrators with detailed granular control using the Advanced Process Criteria.
